What are the types of recruitment ?

Recruitment is the process that enables an organization to select, hire and train the most skilled and
talented workforce that works with a vision to achieve the organizational goals. Often, the process
of recruitment is time-consuming and requires a lot of effort on the part of the organization.
additionally, the organization needs to put in resources in terms of money and personnel to ensure
that its recruitment process does not go wrong.
When recruiting, organizations adopt either of the methods:

  •  Internal recruitment
  •  External recruitment

What is internal recruitment?
Internal recruitment as the name suggests takes place internally within the organization. in this
type of recruitment, an organization hires employees for various job roles from within the
organization. Some ways in which internal recruitment can be achieved are:

  • Promotion: When a position in any level of management becomes vacant, an organization fills the job role from employees working in the lower levels of management. This promotes the employee in terms of the responsibilities, benefits, position, and salary.
  • Transfer: Within an organization, employees can be shifted from one job role to another within a department or from across departments to fill the vacant job positions. This is called transfer.
  • Recalling former employees: Many times, organizations can recall previous employees to fill in vacant positions.
  • Employee referrals: In this case, organizations hire the people referenced by the employees working in an organization. This helps organizations save the costs incurred on advertising and often screening of the candidates.

What is external recruitment?
External recruitment for an organization is said to take place when an organization depends on
outside sources to fill the various vacant posts.

Some sources of external recruitment are:

  • Employment at the factory gate wherein an organization hires a large number of potential employees for skilled or semi-skilled jobs.
  • Advertisements wherein the vacant posts are advertised using different media channels like TV, newspapers, and social media to attract potential candidates.
  • Employment agencies wherein an employer contacts an employment agency that has a list of registered job seekers. In this case, the employment agency handles the task of screening the candidates based on the job role.
  • Educational institutions wherein employers hire entry-level employees from universities or colleges.
  • Labor contracts wherein an employer hires labor on a contract basis to do skilled or semi-skilled jobs.

The process of recruitment aims at ensuring that an organization gets the right people for the right
job, whether the method used for recruitment is external or internal.
